St. Joseph’s Care Group hosts local students for hands-on learning experience
On Sunday, January 28th 2018, the Volunteer Services team at St. Joseph’s Care Group (SJCG) hosted a group of local secondary-school students from the Northwestern Ontario Secondary School Students Association (NWOSSSA). NWOSSSA is a student-run organization in Thunder Bay that strives to encourage personal growth and leadership opportunities for students.
This group of students, along with a number of SJCG volunteers, worked together during the afternoon to prepare memory boxes. Memory boxes are an initiative adopted in partnership with Hospice Northwest and are provided to families at end of life of their loved one to bring home cherished belongings. The students exceeded their expectations by producing 33 boxes while meeting NWOSSA’s mandate of community involvement.
This is one way St. Joseph’s Care Group is engaging with youth to encourage more volunteer involvement and experiential learning.
